Chief Justice Justice Bhushan Gavai Congratulates World Champion Divya Deshmukh

Nagpur, Aug 2025 : Divya Deshmukh has created history by becoming the World Champion at the recently concluded FIDE Women’s Chess World Championship held in Georgia. Chief Justice of India, Justice Bhushan Gavai, visited her residence at Shankar Nagar to personally congratulate her and honored her with a bouquet.

Justice Gavai mentioned that the Deshmukh and Gavai families have shared familial ties for three generations, making Divya’s world championship victory a personal and joyous occasion for both families.

Divya’s father Dr. Jitendra Deshmukh and mother Dr. Namrata Deshmukh were also present during the visit. Miss Divya Deshmukh achieved a historic victory in the tournament, becoming the first Indian woman to win the World Chess Championship title.

Her grandfather, Dr. K. G. Deshmukh, was the first Vice-Chancellor of Amravati University and also served as the Chairman of the Maharashtra Public Service Commission (MPSC). Justice Bhushan Gavai expressed his heartfelt wishes and lauded Divya’s dedication, intelligence, and perseverance, which have brought immense pride to the nation on the global stage.
