Approval for 5 New Police Stations in Pune – CM Devendra Fadnavis
Inauguration of Various Projects of Pune City Police Commissionerate by CM Devendra Fadnavis
Pune, Aug 2025 : Considering the challenges faced by the police and emerging issues in law and order, a new structure for the police force has been created after 60 years. This includes restructuring police stations and creating Narcotics and Forensic units. The government will continue to extend all possible support to modernize the police force. For Pune city, the demand for five new police stations—Lohgaon, Laxminagar, Narhe, Manjari, and Yeolewadi—will be approved, along with sanctioning the required manpower of 1,000, assured Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis.
He was speaking at the Bhoomipujan and inauguration ceremony of various projects in Pune city, organized by the Pune City Police Commissionerate at Police Headquarters, Shivajinagar. Deputy CM and District Guardian Minister Ajit Pawar, Higher and Technical Education Minister Chandrakant Dada Patil, Deputy Speaker Anna Bansode, Additional Chief Secretary (Home) Iqbal Singh Chahal, DGP Rashmi Shukla, MD of Maharashtra Police Housing & Welfare Corporation Archana Tyagi, Pune Police Commissioner Amitesh Kumar, and Joint Commissioner of Police Ranjan Kumar Sharma were present.
Mr. Fadnavis said that approval will also be given soon for two Deputy Commissioners of Police for Pune. As cities expand, the police force must also adapt. One new police station was inaugurated and four police stations had their foundation stone laid. This is the first time in the state’s history that seven police stations have been sanctioned for Pune city. Considering Pune’s growth and its industrial-academic importance, strengthening its security is a priority.
The first phase of Pune’s CCTV project began 10 years ago. A modern, AI-enabled control room has now been added to this system, making Pune’s CCTV network one of the most advanced in the country. This will enable better traffic management, crime detection, and situation analysis. It will help police quickly identify and track criminals, ensuring they can no longer evade law enforcement.
Cutting-edge Security for Pune
Technology-based surveillance will start from Bopdev Ghat to monitor deserted areas, and in the next two years, 22 such hills around the city will be under watch. Any malfunction in cameras will trigger immediate alerts to the control room, and repairs will be done within 24 hours. The police will also have five modern control vehicles with drone facilities, capable of functioning as mini commissionerates in emergencies.
Modern Traffic Management with Technology
Pune’s traffic system will be upgraded using satellite-based Integrated Traffic Control Systems, linking traffic signals and enabling real-time diversions to alternate routes. AI will assist in traffic monitoring. A 10-year infrastructure plan for Pune, Pimpri-Chinchwad, and PMRDA areas has been prepared and will be shared with the public for feedback before finalization.
On the issue of narcotics, Mr. Fadnavis said the state has taken strict action, and Pune Police has performed well in this regard. He also praised the police for their rehabilitation project for juveniles in conflict with the law.
Government Committed to Police Modernization – Ajit Pawar
Deputy CM Ajit Pawar said Pune and Pimpri-Chinchwad’s growing size has increased the police’s responsibility to maintain law and order. The state has earmarked ₹1,100 crore for the police under the district annual plan, with ₹40 crore given in the last two years to Pune, Pimpri-Chinchwad, and rural areas. He urged police to ensure justice for citizens and called for public cooperation in maintaining order.
Pune Police Commissioner Amitesh Kumar, in his introductory speech, said the state has approved projects worth ₹1,000 crore for strengthening Pune Police in the last three years, including seven new police stations, 816 personnel, 2,800 CCTV cameras, an Integrated Command & Control Center worth ₹450 crore, and ₹80 crore for CCTV surveillance on 22 hills.
Before the program, CM Fadnavis inaugurated the ‘Drishti’ Integrated Command & Control Center and the new Chandannagar Police Station building, and performed Bhoomipujan for the new buildings of Loni Kalbhor, Nanded City, Kharadi, and Kondhwa police stations. He also launched the ITMS traffic management system, released mobile surveillance vans, and flagged off drones.
During the event, CM Fadnavis honored police officers who successfully rescued a two-year-old girl from Dharashiv using CCTV analysis. Women present tied Rakhi to the CM and Deputy CM.
