Raksha Bandhan, Relief, and Relationships — A Touching Scene of Human Emotions Amid Disaster
While inspecting relief and rescue operations in the disaster-hit Dharali region of Uttarkashi district on Friday, Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami witnessed an intensely emotional moment that brought tears to the eyes of everyone present.
Mrs. Dhangauri Baraulia, a resident of Ishnapur in Ahmedabad, Gujarat, had come to Uttarakhand with her family to visit Gangotri. On August 5, due to the severe disaster, she and her family became stranded in Dharali. With roads blocked and continuous debris flow coupled with strong water currents, the situation had become extremely challenging.
On the directions of the state government, swift relief and rescue operations were launched in the affected areas. The Chief Minister himself has been in the region for the past three days, personally overseeing relief efforts. Through the tireless work of rescue teams, Mrs. Baraulia and her family were brought to safety.
On the day before Raksha Bandhan, while the Chief Minister was present in the affected area, an emotional Mrs. Baraulia tore a piece of cloth from her dupatta and tied it to Chief Minister Dhami’s wrist as a rakhi. The sight deeply moved everyone present.
The Chief Minister humbly accepted this heartfelt gesture, saying that the state government stands with every affected citizen in this hour of crisis and will provide every possible assistance. He added that the government is fully committed to working for relief, rehabilitation, and reconstruction.
This display of human emotion in the remote region of Dharali became a symbol of hope, trust, and social solidarity in the midst of adversity.
