Chhattisgarh Gets Approval for Additional Allocation of DAP and Urea Following Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai’s Initiative

50,000 tonnes each of DAP and Urea allocated beyond the supply plan

Raipur, Aug 2025 : On the initiative of Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai, Union Minister for Chemicals and Fertilizers, Jagat Prakash Nadda, has approved the additional allocation of urea and DAP fertilizers to Chhattisgarh. Notably, in Delhi, a delegation of Chhattisgarh MPs led by State Agriculture Minister Ramvichar Netam met the Union Minister to discuss fertilizer supply for the state.

During the meeting, Agriculture Minister Netam and the MPs highlighted the increased fertilizer requirement during the transplantation phase of the kharif season, especially for paddy cultivation, and requested an additional allocation of 50,000 tonnes each of urea and DAP over and above the state’s approved supply plan. Minister Nadda instructed the Ministry of Fertilizers to make the additional fertilizers available to Chhattisgarh.

The meeting was attended by Lok Sabha MPs Santosh Pandey, Vijay Baghel, Kamlesh Jangde, and Rupkumari Chaudhary; Rajya Sabha MP Devendra Bahadur Singh; Chhattisgarh MARKFED Managing Director Kiran Kaushal; and senior officials. They explained that farmers in Chhattisgarh predominantly grow paddy and that the transplantation process is in full swing in August–September. At this stage, to promote vigorous plant growth and ensure better yields, farmers require a higher supply of phosphatic fertilizers.

Minister Netam and the MPs informed the Union Minister that as per the supply plan until July, Chhattisgarh was to receive 5.99 lakh metric tonnes of urea and 2.68 lakh metric tonnes of DAP. In reality, 4.63 lakh metric tonnes of urea and 1.61 lakh metric tonnes of DAP had been received. For August, the supply plan includes 57,600 metric tonnes of urea and 36,850 metric tonnes of DAP. Since August is the peak demand month for these fertilizers, they requested an additional 50,000 metric tonnes each of urea and DAP over the existing allocation.

Fertilizer Storage and Distribution During the Kharif Season

According to Agriculture Department officials, for the 2025 kharif season, the Government of India has set targets for the state of 7.12 lakh metric tonnes of urea, 3.10 lakh metric tonnes of DAP, and 60,000 metric tonnes of MOP. By August 11, the state had stored 6.72 lakh metric tonnes of urea, 2.14 lakh metric tonnes of DAP, and 80,000 metric tonnes of MOP.

Officials also reported that to substitute for DAP, alternative fertilizers such as NPK and SSP are being stocked — 2.37 lakh metric tonnes of NPK against a target of 1.80 lakh metric tonnes, and 2.95 lakh metric tonnes of SSP against a target of 2 lakh metric tonnes. These alternative fertilizers are being used to offset shortfalls in DAP supply.
