Chief Minister Honours Sanitation Sisters by Washing Their Feet – ‘For the First Time in Life, We Felt So Proud’

Raipur, Aug 2025 : When Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai and Deputy Chief Minister Arun Sao washed the feet of sanitation sisters (Swachhata Didis) at Bilaspur’s Bahatarai Stadium, the women were moved to tears. Thousands witnessed this emotional and inspiring moment.

The Chief Minister and Deputy Chief Minister honoured sanitation sisters from urban bodies that excelled in the Swachh Survekshan 2024–25 in this unique way. The honoured women expressed heartfelt gratitude to CM Sai and Deputy CM Sao for this proud moment.

After the ceremony, Chief Minister Sai said that sanitation sisters and “sanitation commandos” play a vital role in creating a clean and healthy environment. Their work goes beyond cleaning—it is part of a social change movement, and their efforts are commendable. He added that such initiatives will enhance respect and awareness for cleanliness-related work in society.

Poonita Bai from Vishrampur and Ranu Dewangan from Kumhari, who were honoured on stage, said that society often looks down upon cleaning work, but today, being honoured by having their feet washed by the Chief Minister was a matter of immense pride. It was a true reward for their hard work, dedication, and commitment. With the cooperation of public representatives and citizens, not only was their work recognised, but their urban bodies also achieved top rankings in the survey.

Pooja Rathore from Bilha and Vasu Raj from Dantewada shared that they have been in this work for eight years, but this was the first time in their lives they experienced such a proud moment. Sanitation sisters Sharda Soni and Kiran Singh also expressed their happiness and heartfelt thanks to Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai and Deputy Chief Minister Arun Sao.
