Deputy Speaker Graces Icar Workshop

Kolasib, Aug 2025:Today, the Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR) organized a One-Day State Level Workshop on the theme “Transforming Food, Land & Water Systems to Combat the Current Climate Crisis” at the ICAR Research Complex in Kolasib. The programme was graced by Mr. Lalfamkima, Deputy Speaker of the Mizoram Legislative Assembly, as the chief guest.

In his address, Mr. Lalfamkima expressed appreciation for being invited to the ICAR programme, stating that it was indeed an honour to attend after a long time. He emphasized the critical importance of carefully and responsibly managing our land resources, and commended ICAR scientists for conducting research on better farming practices, soil health, and water conservation for the benefit of the people. He acknowledged that although people often harvest crops according to their wishes, in Kolasib District especially, there are skilled scientists and experts available to guide farmers towards better crop cultivation and soil management.

Mr. Lalfamkima also encouraged representatives from various Line Departments present to work in close cooperation under the Bana Kaih Policy of the Mizoram Government, to achieve food and economic self-sufficiency. He urged them to share the knowledge and skills acquired from ICAR’s trainings and demonstrations widely with the community.

Speaking at the event, Kolasib DC Mr. Robert C. Lalhmangaiha noted that among all creations of God, human beings are entrusted with the special responsibility to use the earth wisely for its growth and preservation. He highlighted the importance of the ICAR centre in Kolasib as a major hub for agricultural research in Mizoram, especially in crop cultivation and animal husbandry, and expressed appreciation for the dedication of ICAR Kolasib staff.

Earlier in the day, Dr. Sunil Doley, Head of the ICAR Regional Centre, Mizoram Centre, Kolasib, delivered the welcome address and explained the objectives of the day’s programme. The workshop was divided into two sessions: the inaugural programme in the morning, and interactive technical sessions in the afternoon with participants from various Line Departments and ICAR RC NEH Region. These sessions focused on crop cultivation methods, sustainable farming practices, and other key agricultural topics.

During the event, ICAR Kolasib experts also launched a booklet on crop and livestock management, which was formally released by the chief guest, Mr. Lalfamkima. Apart from ICAR NEH Region and Line Departments, progressive farmers from Kolasib District also actively participated in the workshop.
