Strict action being taken against encroachments in Panchkula: PMDA

Chandigarh, Aug 2025 – The Panchkula Metropolitan Development Authority (PMDA) has refuted a news report alleging inaction against encroachments despite ministerial orders.

Giving information, a government spokesperson said the PMDA has consistently taken strict action against any form of encroachment on its land. In the past, joint drives with the District Town Planner (DTP) and PMDA’s engineering staff led to the removal of an illegal meat market in Industrial Area-I, Panchkula. The major sector roads, now under PMDA’s jurisdiction, are encroachment free, except for a few movable hawkers at certain points for which necessary correspondence has been made to Municipal Corporation as well as the traffic police to take necessary action on an urgent basis.

Further, fresh joint exercises have been initiated to identify and remove illegal structures, and restoration of the reclaimed areas at any place under PMDA jurisdiction.

The PMDA has assured citizens that any new encroachment will be dealt with promptly and decisively. The Authority remains fully committed to protecting public land, maintaining orderly development, and ensuring a better urban environment for Panchkula residents.
