CM Shri Bhupendra Patel Gifts Four-Century-Old Kutch Artwork to Bhutan King

Gandhinagar : The King of Bhutan, His Majesty Jigme Khesar Namgyel Wangchuck, and Prime Minister Mr. Tshering Tobgay are on a three-day visit to Gujarat. On July 22, they arrived in Gandhinagar and met with Chief Minister Shri Bhupendra Patel. To honor the esteemed guests, the Chief Minister hosted a dinner at The Leela Hotel in Gandhinagar. The Chief Minister also presented the King with a replica of the renowned Rogan art from Kutch and a traditional Bhujodi shawl as cherished mementos.

Rogan Art: A Four-Century-Old Craft from Kachchh
Rogan Art is a traditional fabric painting technique, dating back four centuries, unique to the Kachchh district of Gujarat. Once on the brink of extinction, the ancient craft has been revived through the dedicated efforts of the Gujarat government and the Kachchh community.

Rogan Art uses castor oil as the primary medium for painting. The term “Rogan” is derived from Persian, meaning “oil-based,” reflecting its key ingredient. Typical designs in Rogan Art feature intricate floral and mandala patterns, with the “Tree of Life” being the most revered and complex design to pull off.
