Focus Should Be on Preventing Accidental Deaths – Transport Minister Pratap Sarnayik Ceremonial Decoration of Promoted Officers

Mumbai, Aug 2025 : For the first time in the history of the department, 331 Assistant Motor Vehicle Inspectors have been promoted to the post of Motor Vehicle Inspector. With this promotion, not only have their powers increased, but so have their responsibilities. Transport Minister Pratap Sarnayik appealed to the newly promoted officers to focus on improving road safety in the state and preventing accidental deaths.

The ceremonial event, where officers donned the insignia of their new posts, was held at the Yashwantrao Chavan Pratishthan auditorium. While addressing the gathering, Minister Sarnayik emphasized the importance of their role. Transport Commissioner Vivek Bhimanwar, Additional Transport Commissioner Bharat Kalaskar, Joint Transport Commissioner Sanjay Mehentrewar, Jayant Patil, Regional Transport Officer Sandesh Chavan, Vinod Sagve and others were present.

Minister Sarnayik stated that through the ST Corporation, essential services are provided to citizens at the grassroots level. Being the fifth highest revenue-generating department in the state, massive reforms are being undertaken. With the promotion of 331 Assistant Motor Vehicle Inspectors, vacancies will open up for fresh, highly educated, and tech-savvy candidates, further strengthening the department’s skilled workforce.

He also stressed the need to develop accident-prevention mechanisms such as speed-breaker-free systems, integrated traffic management, and preventive safety measures. Increasing the number of road signboards and ensuring accident-free roads must be a priority, he said. “Promoted officers must always safeguard and enhance the reputation of the department,” the minister added.

Transport Commissioner Vivek Bhimanwar noted that along with promotion comes greater responsibility. With the growing number of vehicles and advancing technology, the role of Motor Vehicle Inspectors is crucial. “The services of the Transport Department are now being compared to those of advanced nations. Citizens expect world-class services while also demanding stronger measures to curb accidents. With the help of modern technology, efforts are being made to reduce accidents. India’s largest Integrated Transport Management System (ITMS) is being established. Road accident fatalities have already been on a decline for the past two years, but road safety remains our foremost duty,” he said.

The event began with an introduction by Additional Transport Commissioner Bharat Kalaskar. Symbolically, eight officers were ceremonially decorated with their new ranks during the function. The promoted officers also took an oath of duty. On behalf of the newly promoted inspectors, Pravin Harde expressed his thoughts. The program was anchored by Transport Officer Anil Patil, and the vote of thanks was delivered by Vijay Ingole.
