Strengthening Athletes is Key to a Developed India, Says Union Minister Raksha Khadse on National Sports Day
Aug 2025 : Union Minister of State for Sports and Youth Welfare, Raksha Khadse, emphasized the need for strengthening athletes across the country to make India a developed nation by 2047. Speaking at a program organized at the National Centre of Excellence (NCOE) of the Sports Authority of India in Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar on the occasion of National Sports Day, she said, “We will all work together to empower the country’s athletes.”
The event was attended by former Union Minister and MP Dr. Bhagwat Karad, Deputy Director of the SAI Centre Monika Ghuge, Assistant Director Sumesh Tarodekar, and other dignitaries. From today, the NCOE in Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar has officially been named the NCOE Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar. “Naming the centre after Chhatrapati Sambhaji Maharaj will provide new energy and inspiration to athletes,” said Minister Khadse.
National Sports Day is celebrated every year on August 29, the birth anniversary of legendary hockey player and Padma Bhushan awardee Major Dhyan Chand. Minister Khadse noted that from this year onwards, schools and colleges across the country will conduct various sports-related activities over three days.
She also highlighted that the new National Sports Policy is committed to providing athletes with quality facilities, modern training, and a motivating environment. “This centre in Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar will nurture athletes who will bring national and international glory to the country,” she added.
Former Union Minister Dr. Karad stated, “The SAI Centre, one of the best sports facilities in Maharashtra, also plays a significant role in the ‘Fit India Movement’.” Proposed Deputy Director Monika Ghuge provided an overview of the SAI Centre’s achievements. The program saw a large gathering of athletes participating enthusiastically.
