RD Minister Interacts with T. Romana College Students on Rural Development Schemes
Aizawl, Aug 2025: The Rural Development Department today organized an awareness programme on various RD initiatives for the final-year Sociology students of T. Romana College at the RD Directorate Conference Hall. The session was graced by RD Minister Prof. Lalnilawma as chief guest.
In his address, the Minister expressed satisfaction that students are showing keen interest in learning about government programmes aimed at improving rural communities. He said classroom learning, combined with exposure to the community through field visits, would give students a practical understanding of these schemes and their positive outcomes.
He highlighted the significance of different government programmes being implemented for rural development and community welfare. He mentioned how MGNREGS has not only provided immediate wage employment but also created durable assets for villages; watershed development projects have contributed effectively to water conservation; and various schemes targeting youth have opened new livelihood opportunities. The Minister encouraged students to study these initiatives deeply, observe their impact firsthand, and gain meaningful insights that would benefit them academically and socially.
The awareness programme was chaired by Pu K. Lalrohlua, Director, RD Department, and included remarks from Pu C. Laldinsanga, Associate Professor, Govt. T. Romana College.
As part of the programme, presentations and discussions were held on major RD schemes such as MGNREGS, Mizoram State Rural Livelihoods Mission (MzSRLM), Social Audit Unit, BADP/SASCI/RMIS, WDC-PMKY 2.0, and PMAY-G/SAGY.
