Maharashtra Aims to Become a Global Investment Hub: CM Devendra Fadnavis

Mumbai, Sept 2025 : Maharashtra is determined to establish itself as the most attractive global destination for investors, said Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, while interacting with officers of the Indian Foreign Service at his official residence, Varsha. He added that the state government would frame new policies across various sectors by incorporating the valuable suggestions received from the diplomats.

Highlighting the state’s rapid infrastructural transformation and growing investment opportunities, the Chief Minister said the government’s vision is to build a governance system not just as a “state” but as an “institution.” This, he noted, would ensure that governance remains institutionalized, with policies and decisions having a lasting impact beyond individuals.

Fadnavis emphasized that infrastructure projects worth ₹10 lakh crore are currently underway in Maharashtra, including highways, ports, airports, power plants, urban development, and water supply initiatives. He stated that the proposed Vadhavan Port and the Samruddhi Mahamarg would revolutionize Maharashtra’s role in the global supply chain. With JNPT port reaching capacity, Vadhavan will emerge as a major national alternative, connecting 26 districts via the Samruddhi corridor, significantly reducing logistics costs.

The Chief Minister said that the Vadhavan region would also host India’s first multi-modal hub, integrating a port, airport, bullet train, and highways, while a “Fourth Mumbai” is taking shape. Alongside, Navi Mumbai is witnessing the development of a University Township, Sports City, MediCity, and Innovation City.

On industrial growth, Fadnavis pointed out that Maharashtra contributes 30% of India’s manufacturing output. New industrial hubs are being developed in Pune, Nagpur, Vidarbha, and Marathwada. A Defence Manufacturing and Solar Hub is planned for Nagpur, while Gadchiroli will host a Steel Hub.

He further stressed Maharashtra’s commitment to sustainability, targeting 52% green energy in its consumption by 2030. The state is prioritizing solar, wind, hydrogen, and pumped storage projects, along with transitioning public transport entirely to renewable energy. He also highlighted initiatives to promote spiritual and coastal tourism, including the Shaktipeeth Highway project.

The meeting was attended by senior IFS officers including Ms. Yojna Patel (DPR, PMI New York), Ms. Pratibha Parker-Rajaram, Joint Secretary (Parliament & Coordination), Ms. Paramita Tripathi, Joint Secretary (Oceania & IP), Ankan Banerjee, Joint Secretary (DE), Ms. Smita Pant, Ambassador to El Salvador, Bishwadeep Dey, High Commissioner to Tanzania, and C. Sugandh Rajaram, Joint Secretary (BIMSTEC & SAARC).
