Government Will Continue to Work with Dedication for Women Empowerment: Chief Minister

Sept 2025 : At the State Stree Shakti, Teelu Rauteli and Anganwadi Worker Award Distribution Ceremony held at IRDT Auditorium, Survey Chowk, Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami honored 13 women with the Teelu Rauteli Award and 33 Anganwadi workers for their excellent service.

Paying tribute to the valiant Teelu Rauteli, the Chief Minister said that at just 15 years of age, she displayed extraordinary courage and military skill, defeating her adversaries at an age when children usually play and study. “It would not be an exaggeration to call Teelu Rauteli the Rani of Jhansi of Uttarakhand,” he remarked.

CM Dhami emphasized that under Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of “Nari Tu Narayani”, several initiatives have been undertaken for the welfare and empowerment of women — such as 33% reservation for women in Parliament and State Assemblies, Beti Bachao-Beti Padhao campaign, Ujjwala Yojana, Lakhpati Didi Yojana, and the abolition of the triple talaq practice. He said these steps have socially and economically strengthened women.

He further added that following the Prime Minister’s guidance, the Uttarakhand government is also working with dedication towards women’s empowerment. Among key initiatives:

  • 30% reservation for women in government services.
  • First state in the country to implement Uniform Civil Code (UCC) to safeguard women’s rights and security.
  • Schemes like Mukhyamantri Laghu Udyog Protsahan Yojana and Entrepreneurship Development Program are being implemented to support women entrepreneurs.
  • Women self-help groups (SHGs) are being provided interest-free loans of up to ₹5 lakh to achieve financial independence.

The Chief Minister also announced that the Teelu Rauteli Award prize money was increased from ₹31,000 to ₹51,000, and the Anganwadi Worker Award from ₹21,000 to ₹51,000 in 2023.

Recognizing the pivotal role of Anganwadi centers in the early development of children, CM Dhami said that his own children also received their initial education and values from Anganwadis. To strengthen Anganwadi workers, the government has raised their honorarium:

  • Anganwadi workers from ₹7,500 to ₹9,300
  • Mini-Anganwadi workers from ₹4,500 to ₹6,250
  • Helpers from ₹3,550 to ₹5,250

He also announced provision for their promotion to supervisor posts.

The Chief Minister assured that the government will continue to protect women’s rights and dignity with full strength, sincerity, and dedication. He highlighted that women in Uttarakhand possess great potential and capability, and products made by SHGs under House of Himalayas are even competing with multinational brands.

He recalled PM Modi’s words from Kedarnath that the third decade of the 21st century belongs to Uttarakhand, and said that women’s groups will play a crucial role in this transformation.

Referring to recent natural disasters, CM Dhami said the state is currently battling multiple calamities, but the government, with support from the Centre, is doing everything possible to reach the affected people.

On this occasion, Minister Rekha Arya said that under CM Dhami’s leadership, the state government has taken several historic steps for women’s welfare, including raising the honorarium of Anganwadi workers.

The event was attended by MLA Khajan Das, Secretary Chandresh Kumar, Director Banshilal Rana, and a large gathering of women.
