Yogi Govt Allocates ₹315 Cr for New KGMU Surgery Dept.

Lucknow : In line with Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath’s vision for modernizing Uttar Pradesh’s medical universities, King George Medical University in Lucknow is poised for a significant transformation. The university’s General Surgery Department will soon be equipped with a state-of-the-art new building with an investment of Rs 315 crore.

The development will unfold on a 9.62-acre site within the university campus, featuring a built-up area of 37,128.76 square meters. Key elements of the project include the construction of a two-story underground basement for parking, and a seven-story building that will house advanced hospital and building management systems.

The new facility will boast cutting-edge amenities such as an advanced robotic surgery system, a 300-bed teaching hospital, a mortuary, and an auditorium. These upgrades are expected to benefit both the general public and the university’s trainee doctors.

This initiative underscores the Yogi government’s commitment to advancing healthcare services across Uttar Pradesh, aligning King George Medical University with future healthcare needs and modern standards.

Construction to be done on turnkey basis

The planning department has begun the process of selecting agencies and allocating work for the construction and development project. Applications have been requested, and the agency selection and allocation process will be completed in August. All construction and development work will be carried out on a turn-key basis using the Engineering, Procurement, and Construction (EPC) mode. After selecting the agencies, a 24-month period has been set to complete all construction activities.

Under the plan, the ground floor will be developed as a stilts floor, and the first floor will be designated as the service area. The second floor will have a 60-bed general ward, the third floor will also have a 60-bed general ward, and the fourth floor will feature a 120-bed general ward. The fifth floor will include a 30-bed private ward, an 18-bed HDU, a 12-bed pre-operation area, and a 20-bed day care ward. The sixth floor will be equipped with a 30-bed post-operation area, 10 operating theaters, a hybrid operating theater, and a 12-bed ICU. The seventh floor will house faculty, administrative offices, and storage blocks.

New building to feature advanced facilities

The new building for the General Surgery Department will be equipped with several advanced features. It will include an auditorium, UG tank, pump room, mortuary, laundry, service floors, HVAC system, fire alarms, CCTV, lifts, IBMS, two-way audio-video conferencing setup, and EPABX networking system. Solar energy plants will also be installed to make the building solar-powered.

Additional features will include wall guards, nurse calling systems, pneumatic tube systems, robotic surgical systems, medical equipment, medical furniture, medical gas pipelines, and a modular operation theater. The building will also have six elevators with a passenger capacity of 26 each, as well as a dedicated elevator for transporting goods and stretchers. The agency responsible for the project will submit a detailed project report based on which the construction work will proceed.

New building to meet needs for the next 100 years

CM Yogi envisions that all medical universities in the state undergo modernization to meet future needs. Accordingly, the new building for the General Surgery Department at King George Medical University will be designed to meet requirements for the next 100 years. The building will be developed with a theme of making the healthcare unit future-ready and accessible to all.

It will be equipped with biomedical waste management, hospital management systems, and building management systems. Innovative construction methods, including post-tensioned slabs, will be used. Additionally, the new building will incorporate color therapy to address various patient health issues.
