Amravati Ranked First in Clean Air Survey 2025

Awarded ₹75 Lakh Prize and Trophy by Union Environment Minister Bhupender Yadav

New Delhi, Sept 2025 : Amravati city has secured the top position in the country for clean air. In the Clean Air Survey 2025 conducted by the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change, Amravati ranked first among cities with a population between 3 to 10 lakh.

At a ceremony held in Delhi, Union Environment Minister Bhupender Yadav presented Amravati Municipal Corporation with a cash prize of ₹75 lakh and a trophy in recognition of this achievement.

In the Clean Air Survey 2025, Amravati scored a perfect 200 out of 200 points, emerging as the best-performing city in the 3 to 10 lakh population category. The survey was conducted under the National Clean Air Programme (NCAP). The prize and trophy were presented to Amravati Municipal Commissioner Saumya Sharma Chandak by Union Environment Minister Bhupender Yadav and Minister of State Kirti Vardhan Singh during a grand ceremony in New Delhi.

The survey, conducted across 130 cities under NCAP, highlighted Amravati’s effective measures to improve air quality. The city made notable achievements, including improvements in road infrastructure with 340 km of roads and pedestrian pathways, greening of 53 parks, and transforming 19 acres of barren land into dense forests. Additionally, dust control initiatives, traffic management, awareness campaigns, and expansion of green cover contributed to Amravati’s leadership in clean air initiatives.

Municipal Commissioner Saumya Sharma Chandak described the award as a collective victory for all residents of Amravati. She said, “This recognition belongs not just to the Municipal Corporation but to every citizen, sanitation worker, engineer, and environmental expert whose relentless efforts made this possible. This award will inspire us to implement eco-friendly policies more rigorously and to further establish Amravati’s identity as a green city.”

At the ceremony, several other cities including Indore, Jabalpur, Agra, Surat, Jhansi, Moradabad, Alwar, Dewas, Parwanoo, and Angul were also honored for their outstanding performance. Furthermore, Indore and Udaipur received international recognition as Ramsar Wetland Cities under the Ramsar Convention.
