Meeting of All Chief Electoral Officers to Review Preparations for Nationwide Special Intensive Revision (SIR) Campaign

Mumbai, Sept 2025 : The Election Commission of India (ECI) convened a conference of Chief Electoral Officers (CEOs) from all States and Union Territories to assess the preparedness for the nationwide Special Intensive Revision (SIR) campaign. The conference was held at the India International Institute of Democracy and Electoral Management (IIIDEM) in New Delhi.

The conference was inaugurated by Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar. Election Commissioners Dr. Sukhbir Singh Sandhu and Dr. Vivek Joshi were also present. The Commission carried out a detailed review of the SIR preparedness of the CEO offices across all States and Union Territories.

During the meeting, the Chief Electoral Officer of Bihar made a presentation sharing experiences, strategies, challenges, and best practices so that other States could benefit from them.

All CEOs presented data from their respective regions, including voter population, the qualifying date of the last SIR, and information from the electoral rolls. They also reported on the digitization of electoral rolls since the last SIR and the status of uploading them on official websites.

Additionally, information was shared on how far the existing voter records have been reconciled with those from the last SIR. The Commission also reviewed the rationalization of polling stations to ensure that each station caters to no more than 1,200 voters.

To ensure that no eligible citizen is excluded and no ineligible person is included in the electoral rolls, CEOs recommended necessary documentation. Special emphasis was placed on making the submission of these documents more convenient for citizens.

The Commission further reviewed the status of appointment and training of District Election Officers (DEOs), Electoral Registration Officers (EROs), Assistant Electoral Registration Officers (AEROs), Booth Level Officers (BLOs), and Booth Level Agents (BLAs), according to a press release issued by the Election Commission of India.
