CM Meets Central Team to Review Disaster Damage in Uttarakhand

The Chief Minister, Shri Pushkar Singh Dhami, met with the inter-ministerial team from the Government of India that visited the state to assess the damage caused by recent disasters.

Sept 2025 : The Chief Minister said that Uttarakhand is an extremely disaster-prone state. During the monsoon, the state faces severe challenges due to landslides, floods, and waterlogging caused by heavy rainfall. He emphasized that to reduce losses from landslides, national-level institutions must work together to further develop advanced forecasting systems.

The Chief Minister noted that this year, excessive rainfall has caused significant damage in various parts of the state, resulting in both loss of life and extensive property damage. In the state’s mountainous regions, events like cloudbursts and landslides cause permanent damage to the land, making it unsuitable for agriculture or construction. He stressed the need for an effective action plan to address such issues.

The inter-ministerial team, after visiting affected areas in Uttarkashi, Rudraprayag, Pauri Garhwal, Chamoli, Bageshwar, and Nainital districts, met the Chief Minister at the Secretariat on Wednesday. Led by Shri R. Prasanna, Joint Secretary, Ministry of Home Affairs, the team included Under Secretary Sher Bahadur, Superintending Engineer Sudhir Kumar, Deputy Director Vikas Sachan, Chief Engineer Pankaj Singh, and Director Dr. Virendra Singh.

The team appreciated the relief efforts undertaken by the state government, citing feedback from disaster-affected people. They commended the arrangements for shelter, food, on-site medical facilities, and other basic necessities in relief camps. The team also noted that immediate financial assistance of Rs. 5 lakh provided to families of the deceased and those whose houses were fully damaged offered significant relief to the affected.

The inter-ministerial team praised the state government’s initiative to maintain a comprehensive database of all pregnant women and to ensure continuous monitoring of their health and safe delivery, suggesting that such practices could be adopted in other states.

During the visit, the team also observed that silt accumulation in rivers due to landslides and floods is raising water levels, highlighting the potential for future damage.

The meeting was attended by Chief Secretary Shri Anand Bardhan, Additional Chief Secretary Shri R.K. Sudhanshu, Secretary Disaster Management Shri Vinod Kumar Suman, and Additional Chief Executive Officer of the State Disaster Management Authority Shri Anand Swaroop.
