CM Stalin to Launch ‘Anbukkarangal’ Welfare Scheme for Orphaned Children

Chennai, Sept 2025 : On the birth anniversary of former Chief Minister and DMK founder C. N. Annadurai, Chief Minister M. K. Stalin will launch a new welfare initiative titled Anbukkarangal in Chennai on Monday (September 15).

The scheme is aimed at providing sustained financial assistance to children who have lost their parents, ensuring their education continues without disruption. According to an official statement, each eligible child will receive a monthly support of ₹2,000 until they reach the age of 18. This assistance is expected to reduce school dropouts among vulnerable children, helping them complete their education despite financial hardship.

Beneficiaries include children who have lost both parents, as well as those with a single surviving parent unable to support their schooling. The initiative falls under the broader Thayumanavar scheme of the Tamil Nadu government, which extends livelihood and welfare support to families living in poverty.

By focusing specifically on education, Anbukkarangal seeks to lay the foundation for higher education and skill development opportunities for underprivileged children. Officials said the programme reflects the State’s continued commitment to Anna’s vision of social justice and upliftment of the marginalized.

The Chief Minister will formally inaugurate the initiative at a special function scheduled at Kalaivanar Arangam in Chennai. As part of the event, Stalin will also distribute laptops to students, underlining the government’s efforts to bridge the digital divide and equip youth with modern educational tools.

Earlier in the day, Stalin will pay floral tributes to Anna at his statue on Anna Salai at 10 a.m. Several Ministers, MLAs, and party functionaries are expected to join him in honouring the late leader, who played a pivotal role in shaping Tamil Nadu’s political and social landscape.

With its combination of financial aid, educational support, and future-oriented initiatives, Anbukkarangal is expected to serve as a lifeline for many children—offering stability during their formative years and instilling hope for a brighter future.
