Center Should Cooperate on Nashik-Pune Railway, Thane Metro, and Mumbai Funnel Zone – Chief Minister Eknath Shinde
New Delhi : Chief Minister Eknath Shinde raised several important infrastructure and development issues in Maharashtra, including the Nashik-Pune Railway, Chiplun-Karad, Thane Metro, Mumbai Funnel Zone, and Group Development. The Chief Minister requested Prime Minister Narendra Modi for cooperation from the Central Government to complete these projects on time.
At the Niti Aayog meeting held at Rashtrapati Bhavan, Chief Minister Shinde outlined the state government’s schemes focused on benefiting the common man. He highlighted key infrastructure projects in the state.
The Chief Minister stated that large-scale redevelopment schemes for old and dilapidated buildings in the Mumbai metropolitan area, as well as other parts of the state, have been initiated through cluster development. He described this as the largest brownfield project in Asia and emphasized its importance in improving the standard of living for citizens. The Chief Minister explained that slums and dilapidated buildings in Mumbai will be redeveloped by state government institutions, with the construction of more than two lakh houses currently underway.
Chief Minister Shinde noted that major road projects in the state are progressing rapidly, with the Konkan Coastal Road and Konkan Green Field Expressway expected to be game changers for the region. He mentioned a plan to create a 5,000 km access-controlled grid for uninterrupted connectivity across Maharashtra. Additionally, about 390 km of metro lines are being constructed in the Mumbai metropolitan area at a cost of over a quarter of a lakh crore rupees, with metro projects in Pune and Nagpur also advancing swiftly. On this occasion, the Chief Minister called for the immediate commencement of the Nashik-Pune railway project.
The Chief Minister also discussed the funnel zone in Mumbai, height limits, and radar relocation. He proposed the development of a quadrangle similar to Marine Drive by utilizing the six acres of BPT land effectively.
