Putin Greets PM Modi on 75th Birthday, Praises Role in Strengthening India-Russia Ties

Moscow, Sept 2025 : Russian President Vladimir Putin on Wednesday extended warm birthday greetings to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, lauding his leadership and his role in deepening the strategic partnership between New Delhi and Moscow.

As PM Modi marked his 75th birthday, greetings poured in from world leaders, many of whom highlighted India’s growing global stature.

In his message, President Putin said, “Your work as head of government has earned you great respect from your compatriots and enormous prestige on the international stage. Under your guidance, India has achieved impressive results in the social, economic, scientific, and technological spheres.”

Stronger Bilateral Cooperation

Putin praised PM Modi’s contributions to advancing ties between the two countries, underscoring their Special and Privileged Strategic Partnership. “You are making a great personal contribution to strengthening the privileged strategic partnership between our countries and to promoting mutually beneficial Russian-Indian cooperation in various areas,” he noted.

Highlighting the warmth in their relationship, the Russian leader added, “I highly appreciate our close comradely relations. We will certainly continue our constructive dialogue and joint work on the current issues on the bilateral, regional, and international agendas.”

Recent Engagements

PM Modi and Putin most recently met on September 1 in Tianjin, China, on the sidelines of the SCO Summit. According to the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA), the two leaders discussed a wide range of regional and global issues, including the ongoing conflict in Ukraine.

During the meeting, Prime Minister Modi reiterated India’s support for peace efforts and stressed the importance of expediting a cessation of hostilities and working toward a durable settlement.

The two leaders also reaffirmed their shared commitment to further strengthen India-Russia cooperation in key areas, reinforcing their longstanding partnership.

Looking Ahead

PM Modi conveyed to President Putin that he looked forward to welcoming him to India later this year for the 23rd Annual India-Russia Summit, which is expected to further advance cooperation between the two nations.
