Revanth Reddy Urges Centre to Approve 42% Reservation Bills for BCs

Hyderabad: Telangana Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy has strongly urged the Central Government to immediately approve two landmark bills passed by the state legislature, which propose 42 percent reservation for Backward Communities (BCs) in education and local body elections.

Reddy made the appeal during a spirited address after hoisting the national flag at the Praja Palana Dinotsavam celebrations, commemorating Hyderabad State’s historic merger with the Indian Union.

Push for Social Justice

The Chief Minister stressed that the proposed reservations would benefit over 23,973 BC individuals, ensuring their political participation in local governance—an essential step toward achieving social equity.

“We are mounting relentless pressure on the Centre to greenlight these bills,” Reddy declared. “The BJP-led Union Government must stop obstructing Telangana’s mission to uplift marginalized communities. I demand immediate approval of the bills passed by our Legislative Assembly.”

He added that these measures are not merely policy decisions but a transformative push to address deep-rooted inequities faced by BCs in the state. By guaranteeing a 42 percent quota, Telangana aims to expand equitable opportunities in education and political representation, fostering inclusive growth across both rural and urban areas.

Water Rights Dispute

Alongside his call for social justice, Reddy also highlighted Telangana’s pressing concerns over river water rights. He asserted that the Krishna and Godavari rivers, lifelines of the state, are non-negotiable assets.

“The state government will not compromise on Telangana’s rightful share of water from these rivers,” he said, signaling a firm stance in ongoing inter-state disputes.

Broader Vision

Reddy’s address underscored Telangana’s broader approach of balancing social equity with resource protection, positioning the state as both a champion of marginalized communities and a defender of environmental and economic interests.

His sharp message to the Centre has sparked fresh debate on federal-state relations, with political observers noting its potential to reshape Telangana’s socio-political landscape.
