35 New Polling Stations to be Created in Aizawl District as per ECI Guidelines

Aizawl, Sept 2025: Today, under the chairmanship of District Election Officer (DEO), Aizawl District, Er. Lalhriatpuia, IAS, the District Level Standing Committee (DLSC) on Rationalization of Polling Stations held a meeting at the DC Conference Hall.

In line with the Election Commission of India (ECI) guidelines to ensure greater convenience for voters, especially where the number of electors exceeds 1,200 per polling station, the DEO’s office prepared a proposal for the creation of 35 new polling stations in Aizawl District. This proposal was presented during the meeting, and the DLSC unanimously approved it.

Currently, Aizawl District has 35 polling stations with more than 1,200 voters each, thereby necessitating the creation of 35 additional polling stations. The proposal was drafted after thorough consultation with political parties, civil society organizations, Assistant Electoral Registration Officers (AEROs), and Booth Level Officers (BLOs), ensuring transparency and cooperation at the local level.

Apart from creating new polling stations, the meeting also discussed voter rationalization measures. Some voters of Zemabawk-II and Bethlehem Vengthlang-I polling stations will be shifted to Zemabawk-V & VI, while voters from the two polling stations located at the YMA Community Hall, ITI Veng-I & II will be shifted to ITI Block-II.

With these changes, the Election Department aims to enhance accessibility, reduce overcrowding, and ensure a smooth polling process for all voters in Aizawl District.
