Urban Roads to Accelerate Development
Bhopal, Sept 2025 : Commissioner, Urban Administration and Development, Shri Sanket Bhondve, said that urban roads play a vital role in accelerating development, and therefore, quality must be the top priority in their construction. He emphasized that engineers associated with urban bodies carry the responsibility of ensuring proper construction and maintenance of roads.
Shri Bhondve, while addressing the ‘Sustainable Road Infrastructure’ workshop at RCVP Noronha Academy of Administration, Bhopal, on Friday, stated that nearly 2.5 crore people reside in the urban areas of Madhya Pradesh. Roads in these areas face heavy traffic pressure and are influenced by various infrastructure activities, making it essential to construct durable and high-quality roads.
The workshop highlighted that projects worth ₹2 lakh crore will be undertaken by the Urban Administration, Development, and Housing Department over the next five years. Simultaneously, projects under AMRUT, Swachh Bharat Mission, Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana, water supply, sewerage, green development and used-water management are also being implemented.
Shri Bhondve emphasised that roads are the backbone of the economy, connecting all sectors of urban areas. The quality of roads reflects the efficiency of urban bodies. Engineers are making significant contributions in their respective domains. They must continuously adapt to emerging technologies. The workshop was designed to equip engineers with updated knowledge, modern techniques and best practices.
Expert Presentations
Subject specialists from IIT Indore, IIT Roorkee, MoRTH, CRRI and RODIC delivered presentations on modern road construction technologies and quality assurance. Experts from RODIC, Shri R.S. Mahaloha and Shri H.C. Arora, spoke on Detailed Project Reports and tender processes. Other sessions covered construction techniques, quality control, testing lab processes, digital project management, real-time monitoring, urban road safety, and the use of waste materials in road construction. Chief Engineer Shri Pradeep Mishra shared insights on urban infrastructure in the state during workshop. The workshop successfully strengthened the capacity of around 600 engineers from across Madhya Pradesh.
