The first Patria AMV XP 8×8 vehicle to Japan Self-Ground Defence Forces.

Sept 2025 : The first Patria AMV XP 8×8 armoured vehicle within the Japan Wheeled Armored Personnel Carrier (WAPC) 8×8 programme has been delivered by Japan Steel Works (JWS) to Japan Self-Ground Defence Forces (JSGDF) in Japan. The delivery followed a hand-over ceremony held on September 2, 2025 at JSW’s Muroran plant in Hokkaido, Japan. Patria contracted the local WAPC programme in August 2023, and since then Patria and JSW have cooperated deeply including technology transfer to Japan.

This significant milestone demonstrates true and close cooperation between Patria, Japan Self-Ground Defence Forces, and Japan Steel Works, with successful results. Variants: Patria AMV XP 8×8 has been developed to provide optimal modularity of components and to be adaptable for a wide range of versions without changing basic vehicle systems.

Patria AMV XP is available in two different models:

• Basic model provides the platform for following variants: armoured personnel carrier (APC), infantry fighting vehicle (IFV), command vehicle, ambulance, reconnaissance vehicle, anti-tank guided missile vehicle (ATGM), armoured repair and recovery vehicle (ARRV), fire-support vehicle with mobile cannons and finally, the 120 mm Patria Nemo mortar system.

• High Roof model provides extra height at the rear of the vehicle, which is ideal if the vehicle is used as a command, C4I, ambulance or workshop vehicle.

Both the Basic and High Roof models and all their variants of AMV XP are available both in regular and extended wheelbase variants.
