Mock Drill on Flood Disaster Response and Relief Conducted at Mayali Nature Camp and Eeb River

Preparedness and Standard Operating Procedures Practiced During Disaster Simulation

Raipur, Sept 2025 : A one-day state-level mock drill on flood disaster rescue and relief operations was organized at Mayali Nature Camp and Hastinapur Bridge on the Eeb River under the joint aegis of the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA), Ministry of Home Affairs, Government of India, Chhattisgarh State Disaster Management Authority, Revenue and Disaster Management Department, and Jashpur District Disaster Management Authority.

On this occasion, a virtual disaster scenario was created to demonstrate standard operating procedures (SOPs) for rescue operations during floods, waterlogging, and related emergencies.

In this state-level mock drill, departments including Electricity, Health, Water Resources, Revenue, Public Works, Home Guards, Panchayat & Rural Development, Police, Forest, and DDRF jointly participated in the rescue practice. Scenarios were enacted such as rescuing people trapped in water sources during floods, those stranded on trees, waterlogged roads, and individuals drowning. In total, nine people were rescued as part of the exercise.

The drill also included demonstrations on precautions to be taken during floods, treatment for snakebites, special care for different categories of people, CPR, emergency medical facilities, protection from seasonal diseases after floods, operation of relief camps, safe transport of victims, dissemination of accurate information to counter misinformation on social media, flood warnings, and establishment of emergency medical centers. One simulation demonstrated rescuing five people trapped on a flood-created island, including a pregnant woman, a snakebite victim, and an elderly person. Another exercise involved rescuing two individuals from drowning.

Additionally, demonstrations were held on creating a “Green Corridor” for flood victims and setting up facilities at relief camps. A large number of school children and NSS cadets also participated, where they were shown emergency procedures, rescue equipment, and ways to create improvised flood safety tools from local resources. They were also briefed on standard operating procedures.

The mock drill was attended by Additional Collector Pradeep Kumar Sahu, SDM Nandji Pandey, Deputy Collector Hariom Dwivedi, Chief Medical and Health Officer G.S. Jatra, District Commandant Vipin Kishore Lakra, Tehsildar Pramod Kumar Patel, along with other departmental officers and staff.
