Neglecting Helmet Can Cost Your Family Dearly: CM Dr. Yadav
Sept 2025 : Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Dr. Mohan Yadav stated that even a small act of negligence, such as not wearing a helmet, can have consequences that affect the entire family. He said that statistics show road accidents are the leading cause of unnatural deaths in India, most of which happen due to negligence, speeding, or not wearing helmets and seat belts. As responsible citizens, people must value their families and lives by ensuring their own safety. Two-wheeler riders must pledge to always wear helmets, which serve as a protective shield and can save lives. The Road Safety Awareness Week, launched during the Navratri festival, is a commendable initiative promoting awareness about saving lives. He urged citizens of the state to wear helmets and follow road safety rules diligently.
Chief Minister Dr. Yadav was speaking at a free helmet distribution program organized on Atal Path under the ‘Seva Pakhwada’ on Saturday on road safety awareness. He lit a ceremonial lamp to inaugurate the event and flagged off a two-wheeler rally. During the event, 2100 helmets were distributed to youth. As a symbolic gesture, CM Dr. Yadav personally placed helmets on five two-wheeler riders—Manoj Nigam, Sandeep Bisen, Sumit Pradhan, NCC cadet Ms. Sanya Siddiqui, and Anjali Singh, to highlight the importance of life.
Youth Responsibility in Road Safety
Chief Minister Dr. Yadav emphasised that it is the responsibility of young people to take care of their own safety. India is the youngest country in the world, and under Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s leadership, the youth have earned global recognition in many fields. Similarly, following traffic rules, avoiding overspeeding, and ensuring safety are equally important responsibilities of young citizens.
Rahveer Yojana Incentives
Highlighting government efforts, CM Dr. Yadav said that patrolling squads, check posts, sensor check posts, digital challans, speed guns, live traffic monitoring and FASTag systems are all being deployed to reduce road accidents. Quick assistance systems have also been introduced, and under the ‘Rahveer Yojana’, any responsible citizen who takes an accident victim to the hospital will be rewarded with ₹25,000 as encouragement. The government is also running special campaigns to promote safe travel and adherence to traffic rules.
Traffic Improvements in Bhopal
Bhopal Police Commissioner Harinarayanachari Mishra informed that to streamline traffic in Bhopal, work is underway to make 37 intersections ‘Left-turn Free’. With the support of the Bhopal Municipal Corporation, encroachments are being removed from intersections. He said that in 2024 alone, road accidents claimed 1, 80,000 lives in India and left 3, 00,000 people injured, underscoring the need for serious road safety measures. He appealed to the youth to always wear helmets, fasten seat belts in four-wheelers, and avoid overspeeding.
Emergency Services
For quick assistance to people in emergencies, the state government has launched the Dial-112 service. Recently, 1,200 well-equipped fast-response vehicles were handed over to the police to provide prompt assistance to citizens.
The event was attended by Minister Krishna Gaur, MLAs Rameshwar Sharma and Bhagwandas Sabnani, Municipal Corporation Chairman Kishan Suryavanshi, police officers, public representatives and a large number of youths.
