Haryana Government launched Surcharge Waiver Scheme-2024 to settle outstanding electricity bills of domestic consumers

Chandigarh – Haryana Government has introduced the Surcharge Waiver Scheme-2024 to help settle outstanding electricity bills for domestic consumers. This scheme is available to both urban and rural domestic consumers whose electricity bills were due till December 31, 2023 and remain unpaid. It applies to both connected and disconnected domestic consumers.

While giving this information here toady, Dr. Saket Kumar, Managing Director of Uttar Haryana Bijli Vitran Nigam said that under the Surcharge Waiver Scheme-2024, the entire surcharge till date on urban and rural domestic electricity connections will be frozen. Consumers will only need to pay the principal amount. Payments can be made either as a lump sum or in installments over the next three monthly or bi-monthly bills. Those opting for a lump sum payment will receive an additional 5 percent discount on the principal amount.

He informed that the frozen surcharge will be waived in proportion to the regular payment of the prescribed installments and the next 3 monthly/bi-monthly bills. If the consumer does not pay the prescribed installments and the next 3 monthly/bi-monthly bills continuously, then the frozen surcharge will be added back to the bill and the consumer will be considered out of the scheme.

Dr. Saket Kumar also mentioned that any incorrect bills will be corrected in accordance with departmental rules. Consumers with pending court cases can also participate in the scheme, provided they withdraw their case from court. For disconnected connections, the electricity service will be reinstated upon payment of either a lump sum amount or the first installment of the principal amount, as long as the disconnection has not been in place for more than six months. For connections that have been disconnected for over six months, consumers will need to apply for a new connection.
