Chhattisgarh Gets Its First National Highway Tunnel
Raipur, Oct, 2025: Chhattisgarh today marked a historic milestone in the field of infrastructure development. The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) has successfully completed the construction of the state’s first National Highway tunnel (left-hand side) in a record time of just 12 months. This breakthrough is not only a significant engineering achievement but also a step that will transform the lives of citizens and boost the state’s economic growth.

The 2.79-kilometer-long tunnel is part of the Raipur–Visakhapatnam Economic Corridor (NH-130CD), being developed by the NHAI’s Abhanpur Project Implementation Unit. Once the twin-tube tunnel is fully completed, it will drastically reduce travel time between Raipur and Visakhapatnam, accelerate trade and industrial growth, and strengthen connectivity among Chhattisgarh, Odisha, and Andhra Pradesh.
Expressing his delight over this achievement, Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai described the tunnel as “a historic step towards a prosperous and empowered Chhattisgarh.” He emphasized that the development of road and transport infrastructure forms the backbone of the state’s progress. The Chief Minister added that the tunnel would open new avenues for tourism as well as social and economic integration across regions.
Chief Minister Sai extended his gratitude to Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways Nitin Gadkari and the NHAI team for their dedicated efforts in realizing this remarkable accomplishment. He said the project aligns with Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of a Viksit Bharat (Developed India) and will serve as a vital pathway for growth and prosperity for generations to come.
