After a Year’s Wait and Delhi High Court’s Rebuke, Centre Finally Allots Official Residence to Arvind Kejriwal
New Delhi, Oct 2025: After nearly a year-long wait and a sharp reprimand from the Delhi High Court, the Central Government has finally allotted a new official residence to Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) Convenor and former Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal. He has been allotted House No. 95 in the prestigious Lodhi Estate area of New Delhi. The residence has been granted to him in his capacity as the National President of a recognized national party.
Following his resignation as Chief Minister, Kejriwal was left without an official residence for almost a year. Despite multiple applications and rounds of correspondence, no allotment was made, prompting him to seek judicial intervention. In March 2025, Kejriwal filed a petition before the Delhi High Court, asserting his entitlement to an official residence as the head of a national party and alleging that the Centre was deliberately delaying the process. The government responded that it was “still searching for a suitable house.”
The matter saw repeated adjournments through April, June, and August 2025, with no concrete decision. Finally, in September 2025, the Delhi High Court came down strongly on the Central Government, terming the delay “an example of administrative insensitivity” for denying accommodation to an elected national party chief even after a year.
The court directed the Centre to allot an appropriate residence to Kejriwal within ten days and sought compliance. During the hearing, the government assured the court that it would follow the directive. Fulfilling that assurance, the Centre has now allotted Lodhi Estate House No. 95 to Kejriwal.
Lodhi Estate is one of New Delhi’s most exclusive localities, home to Union Ministers, Supreme Court judges, and senior bureaucrats. Kejriwal’s new residence is expected to become the administrative and political hub of the Aam Aadmi Party’s national activities.
Political observers view this not merely as an administrative formality but as a symbolic victory — marking the end of a prolonged delay, judicial intervention, and eventual acknowledgment of Kejriwal’s entitlement.
Kejriwal is expected to move into his new government residence soon, from where he will continue his work as AAP’s National President, focusing on the party’s expansion across India and preparing strategies for upcoming elections.
