Congress Names Naveen Yadav as Candidate for Jubilee Hills By-Election

Hyderabad, Oct 2025 : The Congress on Wednesday announced Naveen Yadav as its candidate for the upcoming by-election to the Jubilee Hills Assembly constituency, scheduled for November 11.

All India Congress Committee (AICC) President Mallikarjun Kharge approved Yadav’s candidature, AICC General Secretary K.C. Venugopal said in a statement issued on Wednesday.

According to the schedule announced by the Election Commission of India (ECI) on Monday, the official notification for the by-election will be issued on October 13. The last date for filing nominations is October 21, while scrutiny of nominations will take place on October 22. Candidates can withdraw their nominations until October 24.

The counting of votes is slated for November 14, and the election process will conclude by November 16, 2025.

The by-election was necessitated by the death of sitting MLA Maganti Gopinath of the Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) in June.

As per the final electoral roll published last week, the Jubilee Hills constituency has 3,99,000 registered voters — comprising 2,07,382 men, 1,91,593 women, and 25 third-gender voters. In comparison, the 2023 Assembly elections saw 3,85,287 registered voters, marking a 3.49 per cent increase.

Polling will be held across 407 polling stations located in 139 areas within the constituency.

In the 2023 Telangana Assembly elections, BRS leader Maganti Gopinath won the seat for a third consecutive term, defeating former Indian cricket captain and Congress candidate Mohammed Azharuddin by 16,337 votes.

In that multi-cornered contest, Gopinath secured 80,549 votes, while Azharuddin polled 64,212. BJP’s L. Deepak Reddy finished third with 25,866 votes, and the All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM) candidate ended fourth with 7,848 votes.

The BRS has fielded Gopinath’s wife, Maganti Sunitha, as its candidate for the by-election, while the BJP is yet to announce its nominee.

The by-election is expected to witness a keen contest among the major political parties as they vie to retain or reclaim this high-profile urban constituency in Hyderabad.
