Global Leaders to Convene in Egypt for Landmark Gaza Peace Summit Co-Chaired by Trump and el-Sisi

New Delhi, Oct 2025 : Preparations are in full swing for a major international summit in Sharm el-Sheikh, Egypt, set to take place on Monday, with the goal of ending the Gaza war and advancing long-term peace and stability across West Asia. The high-profile event will be co-chaired by US President Donald Trump and Egyptian President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi, according to a statement from the Egyptian Presidency, as reported by international media.

More than 20 heads of state and global leaders are expected to attend the summit, including UN Secretary-General António Guterres, UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer, French President Emmanuel Macron, Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni, Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, European Council President António Costa, and Jordan’s King Abdullah II.

According to national media reports, Prime Minister Narendra Modi has also been invited by Presidents Trump and el-Sisi to join the high-level summit. The invitation was reportedly extended at the last minute on Saturday, though the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO) has yet to confirm whether the Indian leader will attend. Should he participate, it would mark India’s first direct engagement in a multilateral peace initiative on the Gaza conflict—reflecting New Delhi’s expanding diplomatic influence in the Middle East.

The central agenda of the summit will be to implement a US-brokered peace plan aimed at ending hostilities between Israel and Hamas, initiating a phased ceasefire, and laying the groundwork for the establishment of a Palestinian state. The first phase of the ceasefire is expected to begin on Monday, coinciding with the exchange of Israeli captives and Palestinian prisoners.

While Hamas has confirmed that it will not attend the summit directly—opting instead to communicate through Qatari and Egyptian mediators—the participation of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu also remains uncertain.

Under the proposed peace plan, Israeli forces will begin a phased withdrawal from Gaza’s urban centres, to be replaced by a multinational peacekeeping contingent composed of troops from Egypt, Qatar, Turkey, and the United Arab Emirates. The transition process will be coordinated through a US-led command centre based in Israel, ensuring oversight and accountability during the implementation of the ceasefire.

In the lead-up to the summit, senior US officials, including Central Command chief Admiral Brad Cooper and Middle East envoy Steve Witkoff, visited Gaza to assess ground conditions and ensure compliance with the ceasefire. Their visit came as tens of thousands of displaced Palestinians began returning to their homes amid a fragile truce, following a partial withdrawal of Israeli forces under the first stage of the agreement.

The upcoming Sharm el-Sheikh summit is being hailed as one of the most significant diplomatic efforts in recent years, with world leaders expected to endorse a comprehensive 20-point roadmap for peace, security, and reconstruction in Gaza. The plan is notable for outlining, for the first time, a clear pathway toward the creation of a Palestinian state, backed by international consensus.

If India confirms its participation, analysts believe it will underscore New Delhi’s commitment to global peacebuilding and highlight its growing strategic relevance in West Asian diplomacy—a region critical to India’s energy security, diaspora, and geopolitical interests.

The summit’s outcome could redefine the contours of Middle East diplomacy, providing a rare opportunity for the international community to unite behind a concrete framework for lasting peace in Gaza and beyond.
