The Indo – Japan Cultural Connection.

In India, the Five Days of Diwali commenced with the celebrations of Auspicious Dhanteras on 18th October, 2025. It is of omnipotent importance that this Five Days, from October 18th to October 22nd, celebration symbolises light’s triumph over darkness and includes Dhanteras, Naraka Chaturdashi, Diwali, Govardhan Puja, and Bhai Dooj.

While in India, Dhanteras was observed by buying Gold, Diamonds by those who could afford, while the financially challenged opted to procure ‘Broomsticks’.

Today, on 20th October, 2025 – the Festival Of Lights is being celebrated with Fervour & Joy.

Several thousand’s kilometres away, the Land Of the Rising Sun, Japan had its distinctive way of celebrating, while bolstering the gaiety. A lantern festival was held in this western Japan city on October 18th, with approximately 25,000 lanterns illuminating 26 locations including temples and the city centre.

The “Onomichi Lantern Festival” recreates the night lights that served as a guide for ships entering the harbour in the city of Onomichi amidst darkness in the Hiroshima Prefecture, which flourished as a port town. The event was held for the 20th time this year.

The local children made the lanterns by hand, with some writing their dreams and drawing pictures on them. Participants lit the lanterns when the sun started setting, and soft candlelight enveloped shopping streets and roads approaching temples as the festival began at 06:00 PM.
