Chief Minister Suspends DIG Bhullar; Reiterates ‘Zero Tolerance’ Policy Towards Corruption

Chandigarh, Oct 2023 : Reaffirming his government’s zero-tolerance policy towards corruption, Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann has suspended IPS officer Harcharan Singh Bhullar, who was recently arrested on corruption charges.

In a statement, the Chief Minister said that corruption-free governance is a cornerstone of the state government’s moral values — a principle that has been clearly reflected in its actions over the past four years. He emphasized that the Punjab Government has consistently upheld a zero-tolerance policy, ensuring that no person found guilty of corruption is spared. Mann added that, under this very policy, the IPS officer arrested by a central agency for corruption has been placed under suspension.

The Chief Minister stated that this action demonstrates the government’s unwavering commitment to transparency, accountability, and integrity in public service. He noted that corrupt practices weaken public trust and hinder the nation’s progress, which is why the state has given top priority to eliminating this menace. Mann announced that the Deputy Inspector General of Police will be deemed suspended with effect from October 16, 2025.

He reiterated that no officer or politician, regardless of their rank or influence, will be spared if found involved in this grave offense against society.

Mann further said that today’s decision sends a clear and firm message that no one guilty of corruption will be allowed to go unpunished. He declared that any form of involvement in corrupt activities will not be tolerated, and those found complicit will face strict action without leniency.

The Chief Minister concluded by stating that since assuming office in 2022, his government has been running a relentless campaign against corruption, reaffirming its commitment to clean and transparent governance in Punjab.
