Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami Flags Off Unity March Walkathon, Pays Tribute to Sardar Patel
Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami on Friday paid floral tributes to the Iron Man of India, Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel, at his statue at Ghantaghar on the occasion of Patel’s birth anniversary. He also inaugurated the Unity March (Walkathon) and participated in it. On this occasion, he administered pledges promoting the adoption of swadeshi (local products) and the vision of a drug-free Uttarakhand.
Paying homage to Sardar Patel, the Chief Minister said that it is because of Patel’s indomitable courage, farsightedness, and unwavering dedication to the nation that India today stands as a strong and united country. He noted that Sardar Patel devoted his entire life to the unity and integrity of the nation, successfully integrating more than 560 princely states to build an undivided India. Honouring this great contribution, Prime Minister Narendra Modi decided in 2014 to celebrate Patel’s birth anniversary as “National Unity Day,” which is a true tribute to him.
The Chief Minister informed that until 16 November, Walkathon programmes are being organised at three locations in every district across the state. Each event includes an 8–10 km march, along with awareness campaigns such as Nasha Mukt Bharat (Drug-Free India), Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam (A Tree in Mother’s Name), and Atmanirbhar Bharat (Self-Reliant India) to spread positive messages in society.
He stated that this Walkathon is not just a run but a medium to strengthen the spirit of unity in diversity. It will inspire youth towards nation-building, discipline, and service. He urged young people to imbibe the ideals of Sardar Patel and play an active role in realising the vision of Ek Bharat, Shreshtha Bharat (One India, Great India).
The Chief Minister said that the state government is continuously working towards making Uttarakhand the best state in the country. He appealed to all citizens to come together and contribute to achieving this goal.
On this occasion, Cabinet Ministers Satpal Maharaj, Ganesh Joshi, Rekha Arya, Rajya Sabha MP Naresh Bansal, MLAs Khajandas and Savita Kapoor, other public representatives, Dehradun District Magistrate Savin Bansal, and SSP Ajay Singh were present.
