Hyderabad: 20 Killed as RTC Bus and Concrete-Laden Truck Collide in Rangareddy District

Hyderabad, Nov 2025 : Twenty people were killed and several others injured in a horrific collision between a Telangana State Road Transport Corporation (TGSRTC) bus and a concrete-laden truck in Rangareddy district on Monday morning.

The accident took place around 6:30 a.m. on the Hyderabad–Bijapur highway near Mirzaguda in Chevella mandal. The bus, travelling from Tandur to Hyderabad, was hit head-on by the speeding truck coming from the opposite direction.

According to eyewitnesses, the impact was so severe that the truck’s entire concrete load collapsed onto the bus, trapping many passengers inside. Thirteen passengers died on the spot, including the drivers of both vehicles. Several others were crushed under the debris.

The bus was reportedly carrying around 70 passengers. Many were standing due to overcrowding. One of the survivors said the bus had started from Tandur at 5 a.m. and was packed to capacity by the time it reached Vikarabad. The survivor recounted that the tipper truck, travelling at high speed, rammed directly into the bus, killing the driver instantly and crushing passengers seated in the first six rows.

Heart-wrenching scenes unfolded as trapped passengers cried for help. Police, with the assistance of local residents, launched a rescue operation to pull out the injured. Three JCB machines were deployed to remove the rubble and recover those stuck under the concrete. The injured were rushed to the government hospital in Chevella, where at least three remain in critical condition.

Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy expressed deep grief over the tragedy and directed senior officials to rush to the accident site and coordinate rescue efforts. He instructed the Chief Secretary and the Director General of Police to ensure that all injured passengers are immediately shifted to Hyderabad for advanced treatment. The Chief Minister also asked ministers in the vicinity to reach the location without delay and closely monitor relief work.

Transport Minister Ponnam Prabhakar ordered officials to provide the best possible medical care to the injured and to expedite relief measures.

This is the second major road disaster in the Telugu states within ten days. On October 24, twenty people were burnt to death when a private bus caught fire after running over a motorbike lying on the road near Kurnool town in Andhra Pradesh. The bus was travelling from Hyderabad to Bengaluru when the accident occurred.

Monday’s tragedy has once again raised concerns over road safety, overloading of buses, and unchecked speeding on state highways.
