Chief Minister Attends Mara Students’ Organisation Diamond Jubilee Celebration
Siaha, Nov 2025: The Mara Students Organisation (MSO) celebrated its 60th anniversary (Diamond Jubilee) today, with Chief Minister Pu Lalduhoma gracing the occasion as the chief guest. Pu M. Laikaw, CEM of the Mara Autonomous District Council (MADC), also attended as a special guest.
After the inauguration of the Jubilee monument and Jubilee Hall at the MSO Office, a thanksgiving programme was held at the Government Siaha College Seminar Hall.
Speaking at the event, the Chief Minister expressed his appreciation to the Mara Students’ Organisation, describing it as an important body for the Mara community—guiding the youth, preserving their identity, and promoting unity with other Zo ethnic groups. He praised the organisation for consistently working to help Mara students progress in education.
Quoting Prof. Federic K. Lehman of Illinois University from his 1963 book The Structure of Chin Society, the Chief Minister highlighted that the Maras are a true Zo ethnic group, sharing cultural heritage, folklore, and linguistic similarities with other Zo communities.
Key points from the Chief Minister’s address:
- The Mara Autonomous District Council is a precious asset; preserve your identity, language, and cultural practices while striving for progress.
- Education must be prioritised. Mara students have been performing well in state-level competitive exams, and they should continue aiming for national-level success.
- To improve educational infrastructure, new secondary school buildings worth ₹145 lakh each have been built at New Laty and Lopu, and a higher secondary school worth ₹111 lakh at Theiri. A women’s hostel worth ₹188 lakh has been constructed at Tipa V.
- The government has created 515 new posts since August, and recruitment has been done through direct selection (2087 posts) and limited departmental exams (532 posts).
- For those unable to secure government jobs, the Bana Kaih Scheme is being expanded to provide training and employment opportunities.
- The Chief Minister urged youth to reject corruption, warning that participation in bribery leads to long-term harm.
- He encouraged perseverance despite challenges, noting that many people misinterpret reforms and hinder progress.
- Mizoram ranks among the top states in literacy and progress, and youth should continue to uphold this reputation.
CEM M. Laikaw also addressed the gathering, praising MSO and expressing hope for the organisation’s continued success. He thanked the Chief Minister for the strong support given by the Mizoram government to the MADC.
The Jubilee event was chaired by T. John Tennyson, Vice President of MSO, with Rev. K. Vabeinocho offering the opening prayer. MSO President Elson Eliasah Notlia and others also delivered speeches.
The Mara Students Organisation was founded on 4 November 1965 in Shillong.
