Eastern Railway Sealdah Division has commissioned a Unique Limited Height Subway between Sargachhi & Berhampore Court Stations.

In a significant step towards enhancing safety and eliminating manned level crossings, Level Crossing Gate No. 124/E, located between Sargachhi and Berhampore Court stations under Sealdah Division, has been closed to road traffic with the simultaneous commissioning of a Unique Limited Height Subway (LHS) No. 124 on 03.11.2025.

The level crossing, having a Train Vehicle Units (TVU) of 83,916, served as a crucial link connecting Berhampore Town to NH-12, catering to a large volume of local commuters and road users.

The Limited Height Subway (LHS) project, for which the box was inserted in January 2025, faced multiple challenges including bank slips and a high water table, which caused delays in the construction of the sump and approach roads. Despite these obstacles, the project has been successfully completed through the active coordination among local authorities and all departments concerned.

With the opening of LHS No. 124 to traffic and the closure of LC No. 124/E, Eastern Railway has taken another important step towards enhancing safety, reducing train delays and improving connectivity in the region.
