Governor of Sikkim meets the Prime Minister
Sikkim Governor Om Prakash Mathur met Prime Minister Narendra Modi in New Delhi on Tuesday to discuss key developmental priorities and ongoing infrastructure initiatives aimed at accelerating the state’s growth. The meeting was confirmed through a social media post shared by the Prime Minister’s Office on X.
This interaction comes just days before PM Modi’s scheduled visit to Sikkim, where he is expected to inaugurate development projects worth over ₹750 crore as part of the state’s 50th anniversary celebrations. Among the major projects to be unveiled are a new 500-bed district health centre in Namchi, a passenger ropeway at Sangachoeling in Pelling, and a statue of Bharat Ratna Atal Bihari Vajpayee at the Atal Amrit Udyan in Gangtok.
The Governor’s meeting follows a similar engagement last month, when Sikkim Chief Minister Prem Singh Tamang called on the Prime Minister to seek central support for restoration work after severe floods and landslides hit the state. That discussion focused on strengthening critical road infrastructure, especially National Highways NH-10 and NH-310A, which are vital for movement of people and essential supplies.
Together, these high-level meetings underscore the Centre’s continued commitment to Sikkim’s development and disaster recovery efforts.
