Trump Nominates Jared Isaacman as New NASA Administrator, Signaling Reset in US Space Policy

Nov 2025 : US President Donald Trump on Tuesday nominated private astronaut and entrepreneur Jared Isaacman—best known for his collaborations with billionaire Elon Musk—to serve as the next administrator of NASA. The move is being viewed as a major shift in American space policy and a possible sign of reconciliation between Trump and Musk, after months of reported tensions. Musk publicly welcomed the decision, reposting Trump’s announcement on his X (formerly Twitter) account.

Isaacman’s nomination marks a surprising turnaround. Earlier this year, he was reportedly dropped from consideration for the role following a fallout between Trump and Musk. In the interim, Sean Duffy, head of the US Department of Transportation, was appointed acting administrator. However, with the new decision, the Trump administration appears ready to restore Isaacman as the agency’s permanent chief.

Announcing the nomination on social media, Trump wrote, “I am pleased to nominate Jared Isaacman, a successful businessman, philanthropist, pilot, and astronaut, to serve as the Administrator of NASA.” He added that Isaacman’s “passion for space, astronaut experience, and commitment to pushing the boundaries of exploration, unlocking the mysteries of the universe, and fostering a new space economy” make him the ideal candidate to lead NASA into a “bold new era.”

Isaacman’s appointment, if confirmed, is expected to strengthen NASA’s collaboration with private space companies and accelerate America’s ambitions in deep space exploration.
