Tej Pratap Yadav Gets Y+ Security Amid Rising Political Tensions in Bihar

Patna, Nov 2025 : The Union Home Ministry has approved Y+ category security for Tej Pratap Yadav, elder son of former Bihar cabinet minister and Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) supremo Lalu Prasad Yadav. This decision comes following a report from central security agencies indicating a potential threat to the life of Tej Pratap Yadav, prompting the government to provide him with permanent security cover. The Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) will now be responsible for ensuring his safety, marking a significant escalation in the protective measures for the prominent political leader.

According to sources, the Home Ministry recently received intelligence inputs highlighting that Tej Pratap Yadav could face threats stemming from political rivalries and ongoing criminal activities in Bihar. The security assessment report explicitly recommended upgrading his security category. Acting on these recommendations, the central government sanctioned Y+ security, which typically entails deployment of 8 to 10 highly trained armed personnel, personal security officers (PSOs), escort vehicles, and anti-surveillance equipment. This arrangement provides continuous 24-hour protection at his residence, during political events, and while traveling.

Tej Pratap Yadav had previously voiced concerns over his safety, citing the deteriorating law-and-order situation in Bihar. In formal letters to Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah, he requested enhanced security. He highlighted the rising incidents of crime and political violence, noting, “The situation in Bihar is no secret. Murders, attacks, and criminal incidents are happening somewhere or the other every day. In such an environment, I and my family are also at risk. Enhancing security is now a necessity.”

The sense of urgency grew for Tej Pratap following the murder of Dular Chand Yadav in Mokama, which he described as an alarming indicator of increasing political and criminal rivalries in the state. He warned that opposition elements could target him and other public representatives, stating, “Incidents like the murder of Dular Chand Yadav show that criminals now have no fear. In such a situation, we too can be targeted at any time. I want both the central and state governments to ensure the security of elected representatives.”

The Home Ministry’s decision has triggered a flurry of reactions across Bihar’s political landscape. Supporters of the RJD have welcomed the move, emphasizing the necessity of protecting political leaders, especially those actively engaged in public service and grassroots politics. In contrast, some opposition voices have criticized the arrangement, labeling it a “political privilege.” Security analysts, however, stress that when a threat assessment clearly identifies risks, extending appropriate protection is a justified and precautionary measure.

Political commentators note that Tej Pratap’s recent activities under the banner of “Janshakti Janata Dal” have significantly increased his visibility and influence in Bihar’s political arena. Although his public image has often been associated with controversies, his rising political engagement has the potential to alter traditional political equations in the state. Observers suggest that given the volatile political environment, providing comprehensive security to Tej Pratap Yadav is a necessary and pragmatic step.

Under the Y+ security protocol, Tej Pratap will receive round-the-clock armed protection. CRPF personnel will be deployed strategically at his residence, during public events, and along his travel routes. The security arrangement will include constant surveillance and measures to prevent any potential attack. Experts assert that this is not merely a response to a specific threat but also a preventive measure, aimed at maintaining political stability and ensuring the safety of public representatives in Bihar amid rising tensions.

The provision of Y+ security to Tej Pratap Yadav underscores the central government’s commitment to safeguarding leaders facing credible threats and reflects the growing emphasis on security in politically sensitive states like Bihar. As Tej Pratap continues his active engagement in the state’s political landscape, this enhanced protection is expected to ensure both his safety and uninterrupted participation in public and political life.

With Bihar’s political environment becoming increasingly complex, the move also sends a message to all political stakeholders that personal security of elected representatives is a top priority, particularly in areas witnessing heightened political and criminal activity.
