Bihar Assembly Elections Phase 2: Heavy Turnout as Voting Begins Across 122 Constituencies

Voting for the second and final phase of the Bihar Assembly Elections 2025 began on Tuesday with voters turning out in large numbers from early morning. Long queues were seen outside polling stations as citizens eagerly waited to cast their votes. This concluding phase will seal the fate of 1,302 candidates contesting for 122 seats across 20 districts, including 12 state ministers. Authorities have deployed tight security at all 45,399 polling stations to ensure smooth and safe voting.

Strong Early Turnout in Key Constituencies

By 11 AM, several constituencies recorded robust polling figures. The top 10 constituencies with the highest turnout include:

  • Gurua – 37.99%
  • Barachatti – 36.91%
  • Valmiki Nagar – 36.78%
  • Kishanganj – 35.81%
  • Kochadhaman – 35.58%
  • Tekari – 35.59%
  • Dhaureya – 35.39%
  • Sherghati – 35.36%
  • Belaganj – 35.28%
  • Jhajha – 35.16%

The Election Commission of India (ECI) reported that of the total polling stations, 5,326 are located in urban areas and 40,073 in rural regions. Over half of the electorate—approximately 2.28 crore—falls in the 30–60 age group, while 7.69 lakh voters are between 18 and 19 years old. Women make up 1.75 crore of the registered voters in these 122 constituencies.

Bypolls Taking Place in Eight States

Simultaneously, by-elections are being held in several states: Budgam and Nagrota in Jammu & Kashmir, Anta in Rajasthan, Ghatshila in Jharkhand, Jubilee Hills in Telangana, Tarn Taran in Punjab, Dampa in Mizoram, and Nuapada in Odisha.

Historic Turnout in Phase 1

The enthusiasm witnessed today follows a historic turnout in Phase 1. On November 6, the state recorded 64.66%, the highest voter participation ever in its electoral history. That phase covered 121 constituencies across 18 districts.

Crucial Battleground Regions in Phase 2

This final phase includes key constituencies in Magadh, Mithilanchal, Seemanchal, Shahabad, and Tirhut. Of the 122 seats, 101 are general, 19 are reserved for Scheduled Castes (SC), and two for Scheduled Tribes (ST). The Magadh and Shahabad regions will be closely watched, as the NDA had performed poorly here in the previous election, winning just eight out of 48 seats.

As polling continues, voter enthusiasm remains high—setting the stage for a decisive political battle that will shape Bihar’s future.

Team Maverick.
