PM Modi Arrives in Bhutan, Highlights Strong and Enduring Bilateral Partnership
New Delhi, Nov 2025 : Prime Minister Narendra Modi arrived in Bhutan on Tuesday, where he was warmly received by his counterpart, Prime Minister Tshering Tobgay, at Paro International Airport.
PM Modi thanked the Bhutanese leadership for their hospitality and reaffirmed the deep-rooted friendship between the two nations. “Landed in Bhutan. Grateful to Prime Minister Tobgay for the warm and gracious welcome at the airport,” PM Modi wrote on X. “This visit reflects the strong bonds of friendship and cooperation shared by our countries. India and Bhutan enjoy a time-tested partnership anchored in trust, goodwill, and mutual respect.”
The visit comes at a crucial time as both countries continue to expand cooperation across diverse sectors, including energy, infrastructure, and cultural exchanges. Their relationship is often described as unique, shaped by historical ties, shared values, and close geographical proximity.
PM Modi said he is looking forward to “further strengthening our close ties during this visit,” signalling India’s commitment to enhancing bilateral relations and regional cooperation.
Ahead of his visit, the Prime Minister emphasised that India and Bhutan share exemplary relations built on mutual trust and understanding. “Our partnership is a key pillar of India’s Neighbourhood First Policy and a model for strong and friendly relations between neighbouring nations,” he said.
India has been Bhutan’s leading development partner for decades, supporting major initiatives in hydropower, education, healthcare, and capacity building. Bhutan remains a central focus of India’s development cooperation, especially in hydropower generation, connectivity enhancement, and infrastructure strengthening.
PM Modi’s visit is expected to deepen these longstanding ties and promote shared progress, reinforcing India and Bhutan’s commitment to peace, stability, and prosperity across the Himalayan region.
