AIMIM Shows Strong Gains in Seemanchal as NDA Surges Toward Landslide in Bihar

Patna, Nov 2025 : The All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM) is delivering an impressive performance in Bihar’s Seemanchal region, with early trends at 2 p.m. showing the party leading in five Assembly constituencies. According to figures released by the Election Commission of India (ECI), AIMIM is ahead in Jokihat (Araria), Kochadhaman (Kishanganj), Amour (Purnea), Baisi (Purnea), and Thakurganj (Kishanganj).

Four of these—Jokihat, Kochadhaman, Amour and Baisi—were previously won by AIMIM in the 2020 Assembly elections, making the current trends a significant boost for the party’s efforts to rebuild and expand its influence in Bihar. The party has been attempting to regain ground after losing four of its five MLAs to defections soon after the 2020 polls. Only Akhtarul Iman of Amour remained with AIMIM; he is once again leading from his constituency, reinforcing the party’s continued relevance in its stronghold.

Seemanchal—comprising Araria, Katihar, Kishanganj and Purnea districts—has 24 Assembly seats and is home to a large share of Bihar’s Muslim population. This demographic has been central to AIMIM’s strategy as it seeks to emerge as an alternative political force in the region.

After being excluded from the INDIA bloc, AIMIM chief Asaduddin Owaisi announced his intention to contest 100 seats in Bihar. However, the party later scaled down its ambitions, releasing a list of 25 candidates on October 19. The inclusion of two non-Muslim candidates was seen as a strategic move aimed at broadening its voter base and countering narratives that the party appeals only to minority voters.

While AIMIM shows strength in Seemanchal, the bigger state-wide picture paints a dominant performance by the ruling National Democratic Alliance (NDA). As of 2 p.m., NDA trends suggest a landslide victory, with the alliance crossing the 200-seat mark.

Within the NDA, the BJP has emerged as the single largest party, leading in 91 constituencies, while its ally JD(U) is ahead in 79. Other alliance partners are also performing strongly: the LJP(RV) is leading in 22 seats, Rashtriya Lok Morcha (RLM) in four, and Hindustani Awam Morcha (Secular) [HAMS] in four.

In contrast, the Mahagathbandhan is facing one of its worst electoral setbacks, currently leading in just 36 seats—its poorest performance to date.

As counting continues, AIMIM’s resurgence in Seemanchal stands out as a notable development, even as the NDA appears set for a sweeping victory across Bihar.
