Samsung Announces Major Leadership Reshuffle, Appoints New Co-CEO and CTO
Seoul, Nov 2025 : In a significant move aimed at strengthening its global competitiveness and navigating external business challenges, South Korean tech giant Samsung Electronics on Friday announced a sweeping leadership reshuffle. The company appointed a new co-chief executive officer (CEO) and a new chief technology officer (CTO), marking one of its most notable organisational changes in recent years.
As part of the reshuffle, President Roh Tae-moon—who has been serving as the acting head of the Device Experience (DX) division—will now formally take charge of the unit, which oversees Samsung’s key consumer businesses, including mobile devices, televisions, and home appliances. Roh will simultaneously serve as co-CEO of Samsung Electronics.
He will work alongside Vice Chairman and CEO Jun Young-hyun, who continues to lead the Device Solutions division responsible for Samsung’s semiconductor operations, a cornerstone of the company’s global revenue. According to Samsung, this dual-CEO structure is expected to enhance operational synergy between the consumer electronics and semiconductor arms, fortifying the company’s position in an increasingly competitive global market.
In its official statement, Samsung said, “President Roh will continue to oversee the mobile business as head of the mobile experience division, while Vice Chairman Jun remains in charge of the memory business.” The company emphasised that the co-CEO model will help Samsung address global uncertainties while reinforcing leadership in future technologies.
Samsung also announced the promotion of Vice President Yoon Jang-hyun, previously the CEO of Samsung Ventures Investment Corp., to the role of CTO and president of the DX division. In addition, the company appointed Harvard University professor Park Hong-kun as the new head of the Samsung Advanced Institute of Technology, highlighting its commitment to deepening research and innovation.
Beyond leadership changes, a new report revealed Samsung Electronics as the top corporate donor in South Korea for the first nine months of 2025. The company contributed 110.4 billion won (US$75.5 million) during the January–September period. Although this amount marked a 22 percent decline from the previous year, Samsung still led the list of corporate donations.
Following Samsung, KEPCO donated 109.2 billion won, while Hyundai Motor Co. contributed 106.9 billion won. SK hynix also made notable philanthropic gains with 59 billion won in donations—a 44 percent rise driven by its exceptional third-quarter earnings.
Samsung’s latest leadership overhaul reflects its strategy to sharpen business focus, drive technological innovation, and maintain its global leadership amid rapidly evolving industry dynamics.
