NIA Arrests Faridabad Man for Harbouring Delhi Terror Bomber Dr. Umar Muhammad Ahead of Red Fort Attack

New Delhi, Nov 2025 : The National Investigation Agency (NIA) on Wednesday arrested a Faridabad resident for providing shelter and logistical support to terrorist Dr. Umar Muhammad, also known as Un Nabi, immediately prior to the November 10 car bombing near Delhi’s Red Fort.

The accused, identified as Soyab, hails from Dhauj in Faridabad, Haryana, and is the seventh person to be taken into custody in connection with the case. According to the NIA, Soyab not only harboured Umar before the attack but also assisted in the execution of the bombing that claimed multiple lives and left several others injured.

Prior to Soyab’s arrest, six of Umar’s close associates had already been apprehended as part of the ongoing investigations under case number RC-21/2025/NIA/DLI. The agency emphasized that coordinated searches across several states continue with the support of local police forces, aiming to dismantle the broader terror network linked to the attack.

Investigations have also shed light on Umar’s methods and preparations. Interrogation of previously arrested members revealed that Umar maintained a “mobile workstation” — a large suitcase containing bomb-making tools, chemical compounds, and containers, which he carried wherever he went.

Umar, a medical professional associated with Al-Falah University in Faridabad, reportedly conducted chemical experiments in his campus room before assembling the final Improvised Explosive Device (IED). One of the arrested suspects, Dr. Muzamil Shakeel, also from the university, confirmed that Umar experimented with substances later used in the blast. Earlier media reports corroborated these details, noting that Umar tested chemical reactions in controlled quantities before finalizing the IED components. Law enforcement subsequently recovered bomb-making materials from Umar’s suitcase.

Investigators further revealed that Umar transported a partially completed IED in the Hyundai i20 used in the suicide bombing. Shortly before the attack, he added acetone, commonly found in nail polish remover, along with powdered sugar and urea, completing the explosive mixture.

Sources indicate that the terror module initially planned to transport explosives from Haryana to Jammu and Kashmir, where Umar had envisioned a larger attack. That plan, however, did not materialize, and the bomber instead sourced urea from the Nuh-Mewat region for the Red Fort IED.

Interrogations revealed that Umar considered himself the “emir” of the terror module. He was reportedly highly educated, multilingual, and the most intelligent individual within the group, fluent in nine languages, investigators said, quoting Dr. Shakeel.

The NIA has reiterated that its efforts are ongoing to trace all members of the terror network responsible for the attack, while continuing to piece together the operational methods employed by Umar and his associates to prevent further acts of terror.
