Delhi Grants Tax-Free Status to Farhan Akhtar’s War Drama “120 Bahadur”
New Delhi, Nov 2025 : Farhan Akhtar’s historical war drama 120 Bahadur, which pays homage to the valour of the Charlie Company of the Kumaon Regiment, has been declared tax-free in Delhi by Chief Minister Rekha Gupta as a mark of respect for the brave soldiers.
The film, which chronicles the extraordinary courage and leadership of Major Shaitan Singh Bhati, who led his men during the Battle of Rezang La in the 1962 Sino-Indian War, has drawn widespread acclaim for its heartfelt depiction of heroism and sacrifice.
Congratulating the filmmakers on her official X handle, the CM wrote, “#120Bahadur, a historical war film, pays tribute to the extraordinary courage, leadership, and sacrifice of the 120 soldiers of Charlie Company, 13 Kumaon Regiment, who fought valiantly in the Battle of Rezang La. The film highlights the inspiring leadership of Major Shaitan Singh Bhati, whose actions and sacrifice remain a defining symbol of courage in India’s military history.“
She further added, “As a special mark of respect to the valiant soldiers, the Delhi Government has decided to grant tax-free status to the film in Delhi from 28th Nov. Congratulations to the creators of the film!“
The tax exemption is expected to encourage greater audience turnout, allowing viewers of all ages to witness the heroic retelling of the Rezang La battle on the big screen.
Farhan Akhtar’s portrayal of Major Shaitan Singh Bhati has earned particular praise from critics and audiences alike. Veteran actress Shabana Azmi lauded his performance, noting the transformation from his previous roles. She wrote, “So so proud of you @faroutakhtar. I loved #120Bahadur and your performance is sincere, heartfelt, and subtle. Can’t believe that the actor who plays #Shaitan Singh is the same actor who played Imran in Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara. Directed by Razneesh ‘Razy’ Ghai and produced by Ritesh Sidhwani, Farhan Akhtar, and Amit Chandrra, 120 Bahadur hit cinema halls on November 21. The film has been celebrated not only for its gripping portrayal of one of India’s most heroic military engagements but also for shining a light on the courage, discipline, and unwavering spirit of the soldiers who fought at Rezang La.
With the tax-free announcement, the Delhi government aims to honour the legacy of the 120 soldiers while giving wider recognition to the film’s contribution to preserving and celebrating India’s military history.
