Mixed Fish Farming Training Concludes at Krishi Vigyan Kendra Raipur

Raipur, Nov 2025 : A three-day training programme on Mixed Fish Farming, organised by Indira Gandhi Krishi Vishwavidyalaya’s Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK), Raipur, concluded today. The training was sponsored by the National Fisheries Development Board (NFDB), Hyderabad. A total of 25 trainees from various districts of Chhattisgarh actively participated in the programme.

At the inaugural ceremony, the chief guest was Dr. Ajay Kumar Verma, Dean, Swami Vivekananda College of Agricultural Engineering and Technology, IGKV. In his address, Dr. Gautam Roy, Senior Scientist and Head of KVK Raipur, provided detailed information on the various fishery-related activities being carried out at the centre.

Training in-charge Dr. S. Sasmall outlined the structure and objectives of the three-day training programme. During the event, a technical bulletin on the topic Mixed Fish Farming Method was also released.

Chief Guest Dr. Verma noted with pride that trainees from not only India but also from foreign countries have come to KVK Raipur for training. After the inaugural session, two technical sessions were held where Dr. S. R. Gaur and Mr. Toshan Kumar Thakur provided in-depth information on the principles and methods of mixed fish farming.

On the second day, Dr. S. Sasmall and Dr. Ankit Thakur conducted field training on the practical aspects of mixed fish farming. Demonstrations were given on pond selection, fish seed stocking, manure management, natural food production, and other practical techniques.

On the final day, Amit Verma, Fisheries Inspector from the Fisheries Department, Raipur, explained in detail the subsidy schemes provided by the State and Central Governments for fisheries. He also guided farmers on how they can avail these subsidies.

Dr. S. Sasmall presented information on income and expenditure under mixed fish farming systems and explained how integrated fish farming can significantly increase farmers’ incomes.

The valedictory session was graced by chief guest Krishna Champalal Hirwani, State President, Cooperative Cell, Chhattisgarh Dheewar Samaj Mahasabha, and special guest Sushil Jalkshtri, State President, Education and Cultural Cell, Chhattisgarh Dheewar Samaj Mahasabha. P. Kurma Rao, State Secretary, Media Federation of India (Chhattisgarh), was also present.

Training in-charge Dr. S. Sasmall gave a detailed account of the activities carried out during the three-day programme, and trainees shared their experiences with the gathering.
