Imran Khan’s Sister Confirms He Is in “Good Health” but Facing Mental Torture in Adiala Jail
Islamabad, Dec 2025 : Former Pakistan Prime Minister Imran Khan is reportedly in “good health” but continues to face mental strain while in prison, his sister Uzma Khanum said on Tuesday.
Speaking to reporters after a 20-minute visit with her brother at Rawalpindi’s Adiala jail, Khanum stated, “Imran Khan’s health is fine. However, he was very angry and said that they are subjecting him to mental torture. He is confined to his room for most of the day, with only limited time to go outside, and there is no communication with anyone.”
Her remarks followed the jail authorities’ rare decision to allow Khanum to meet her brother after repeatedly denying access to his family members and party leaders. The move came amid protests by Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) supporters outside the Islamabad High Court and Adiala jail, demanding an end to restrictions on Khan’s visitation rights. Ahead of the protests, Section 144 of the Criminal Procedure Code was enforced in Islamabad and Rawalpindi to restrict public gatherings.
Last week, Rawalpindi jail officials had confirmed that Khan remained in Adiala and was in good health. A statement issued on November 26 clarified, “There is no truth to reports about his transfer from Adiala jail. He is fully healthy and receiving complete medical attention.” Authorities described rumours regarding his health as “baseless,” insisting that Khan’s well-being was being properly monitored.
Khan has been in prison since August 2023 and faces multiple legal cases, including charges related to corruption and terrorism, following his removal from office via a no-confidence motion in 2022.
Meanwhile, the Human Rights Commission of Pakistan (HRCP) voiced serious concerns over alleged restrictive detention conditions and limitations on family visits for the PTI chief. “Allegations indicating that he has been unable to meet close relatives, associates or legal counsel warrant urgent clarification, as regular and unhindered access to immediate family and counsel is a fundamental safeguard against isolation and misuse of detention powers,” the HRCP said in a post on X.
The rights body urged the Government of Pakistan and the Provincial Punjab Home Department to ensure that all practices comply with constitutional due-process protections and international standards for humane treatment.
Uzma Khanum’s visit provides a rare glimpse into Khan’s current conditions, highlighting ongoing tensions over his treatment in prison and the broader political unrest surrounding his detention.
