State-Level Specially Abled Awards Ceremony: Empowering Persons with Disabilities – Chief Minister Bhajanlal Sharma
Jaipur, Dec 2025: On the occasion of International Day of Persons with Disabilities, Chief Minister Bhajanlal Sharma honored outstanding persons with disabilities (PwDs) and institutions at a state-level Specially Abled Awards ceremony held at Harish Chandra Mathur Institute of Public Administration (OTS).
Chief Minister Sharma highlighted that persons with disabilities have demonstrated exceptional talent across every field – from sports, education, science, music, and arts to technology. He emphasized that providing equal opportunities to help them advance is a moral responsibility for all. He urged citizens to recognize and support the talents of PwDs, ensuring their special abilities benefit society and contribute to building an inclusive community. The CM affirmed the government’s commitment to making Rajasthan the most accessible and sensitive state for persons with disabilities.
Sharma praised the awardees, stating that their success stories inspire everyone. He lauded their determination, courage, and perseverance, citing Paralympic athletes as examples of outstanding achievement. He also highlighted the central government’s initiatives, including the Accessible India Campaign and the expansion of disability categories under the Persons with Disabilities Act from 7 to 21, making provisions even for acid attack survivors. These measures are aiding PwDs in becoming self-reliant and breaking societal barriers.
The CM outlined state initiatives for PwDs, including distribution of motorized tricycles, wheelchairs, smartphones, and pensions. Last year, 2,000 scooters were distributed, and this year, 2,500 scooters are being provided. Residential institutions’ mess allowances have been increased from ₹2,500 to ₹3,250 per resident. Over 1 lakh assistive devices are targeted for distribution this year, including the first-ever electric-powered wheelchairs for those with rare diseases like muscular dystrophy.
During the ceremony, Chief Minister Sharma distributed smartphones, hearing aids, smart canes, scooters, and assistive devices to the specially-abled. He also viewed an exhibition showcasing products made by PwDs. Social Justice & Empowerment Minister Avinash Gehlot noted that Rajasthan leads the country in PwD identification and issuance of Unique Disability Identity Cards.
Parliamentary Affairs Minister Jogaram Patel, Additional Chief Secretary Aparna Arora, Specially Abled Directorate Commissioner Iqbal Khan, and numerous officials and PwDs were present at the event.
