“Tragic Plane Crash in Brazil: 62 Dead”
A tragic plane crash occurred in Brazil on Friday, as a plane carrying 62 people went down, resulting in the death of all onboard, according to local TV station Globonews. The regional turboprop aircraft, operating near São Paulo, crashed, leaving no survivors, as confirmed by local officials at the crash site.
The crash took place near Valinhos, close to Vinhedo, where a house in a nearby condominium complex was damaged, though no injuries were reported among the residents.
The ATR-72 aircraft, operated by Vopas Linhas Aéreas, was en route from Cascavel in Paraná State to Guarulhos in São Paulo. São Paulo’s state fire brigade confirmed on social media that a plane had crashed in Vinhedo, dispatching seven crews to the scene.
The plane had 58 passengers and 4 crew members onboard. Vopas Linhas Aéreas confirmed the crash in a statement, though the cause of the accident has yet to be disclosed.
Brazilian television network Globonews aired footage showing a fire in a residential area with smoke billowing from the wreckage. Additional footage showed the plane descending rapidly into a wooded area before the crash. During an event in southern Brazil, President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva expressed his sorrow over the tragedy and requested a moment of silence from those in attendance.
